Multi-office, multi-state law firm seeks an experienced litigation paralegal for immediate full-time employment in its Buffalo, New York office. Candidate should have a minimum of three (3) years’ experience, although exceptional candidates with less experience will be considered. Must be familiar with all aspects of liability and defense litigation. 

This position would be working in a high volume and fast paced environment. The candidate should have the necessary skills to manage high volume discovery processes. This position requires a high level of management, motivation, flexibility, initiative and ability to follow through on ongoing projects. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in overseeing a number of projects, complying with quick deadlines, and have the ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations. They should possess strong professional and communication skills, be friendly and outgoing, and should be able to work both independently and as a team player. While the candidate will work primarily with lawyers in the firm’s Buffalo location, he or she will also interact and work on matters across the firm’s footprint.

Responsibilities include:

  • Drafting of pleadings, discovery demands/responses, motions, subpoenas, settlement documents, etc.

  • Performing legal and factual research

  • Analyzing medical records, draft summaries and chronologies

  • Process authorizations and compile medical records

  • Communicate with courts, clients, experts, opposing counsel, and counsel for co-defendants as needed

  • Schedule and confirm IME appointments with experts

  • Manage and update case activity to assist attorneys with case monitoring and client reporting.

  • Assist with prepping files for mediation, arbitration and trial

  • Prepare cases from inception to trial

  • Accurately record and maintain billable hours

Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • Paralegal Certificate; Associate degree or higher is preferred

  • Minimum of  three (3) years of relevant work experience in the legal field

  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint and the ability to learn new programs and systems

  • Knowledge of State and Federal Court rules and e-filing procedures

  • Legal research (Lexis, Westlaw) proficiency preferred

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to multi-task, attention to detail, excellent communication and organizational skills

  • The ability to anticipate schedules and deadlines and move projects forward

  • Exemplary planning and time management skills

  • Should be able to work under deadlines and have some flexibility in their work schedule to meet unforeseen demands

Salary is commensurate with experience and skill set. Position offers benefits, including health, life, short-term and long-term disability, as well as 401k, flexible work and paid time off.

For New York City Applicants:  Salary range: $20.00 - $35.00/hr. ($41,600.00 - $72,800.00), plus may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. The anticipated salary range is for candidates who will work in New York City. The salary offered to a successful candidate will depend upon the individual’s skills, experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  Gerber Ciano Kelly Brady, LLP, is a multi-state employer and this salary range may not reflect positions that work only in other states.
