Matt is an experienced trial attorney who focuses his practice on construction, products liability, general liability, motor vehicle and premises litigation. He has defended both large corporations and individuals in complex litigation matters. Matt handles high exposure New York Labor Law cases involving detailed contractual disputes. He has successfully defended corporations against insurance coverage disputes and indemnification claims.
Matt understands advocating rom a client’s perspective. As an Assistant District Attorney in the County Court Trial Bureau of the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office, Matt specialized in the prosecution of animal cruelty and arson cases. His arson experience is particularly beneficial to the firms first-party insurance clients. As a DA, Matt tried numerous cases to verdict and conducted regular pretrial hearings. He gained key insight on what is particular to relevant jurors. Matt’s experience as a prosecutor also honed his negotiation skills as he negotiated over 500 plea agreements with opposing counsel.
Matthew’s experience includes working as a legal intern with the San Diego District Attorney’s Office Family Protection and Narcotics Divisions, where he researched complex legal issues, including comparative state law relating to the three-strikes law; drafted motions for the deputy district attorneys; and argued preliminary examinations and motion hearings.
While receiving his juris doctor at the University of San Diego School of Law, Matthew was a member of the National Mock Trial Team and participated in the TYLA (Texas Young Lawyers Association) Mock Trial Competition and the McLennon Moot Court Competition. He was the recipient of a Dean’s Honor Scholarship.
Matthew also has business experience, having worked as an equity research associate for a New York-based global investment bank and securities trading and brokerage firm.
When Matt is not working, he is an outdoor enthusiast. He loves spending time with his family on the water and motorcycle riding.
