Paul’s extensive experience includes the analysis and litigation of complex insurance coverage and contractual risk transfer issues. He represents insurance companies in large-loss subrogation actions and assists special investigation units in the investigation, evaluation and litigation of suspicious first party claims. Paul’s experience also includes the representation of insurance companies with respect to uninsured/underinsured motorists and no-fault claims, insureds with respect to various third-party matters including premises liability claims, automobile accidents, and various labor law issues, and appellate practice.
After some time as a litigation claims adjuster for a regional insurance company, Paul obtained his legal degree from the University at Buffalo. While in law school he was a founding member of The Buffalo Intellectual Property Law Journal and served as its second Editor-in-Chief.
Since being admitted to the New York State Bar, Paul has focused his insurance practice on evaluating and litigating insurance coverage issues. He believes his time as a litigation claims adjuster has given him a unique perspective on how to efficiently and effectively provide legal counsel to insurance companies and to insureds.
He currently serves as chair of the Insurance Coverage Committee to the Torts, Insurance and Compensation Law Section of the New York State Bar Association. He authors “Construing the Insurance Contract” and “Insurer’s Avoidance of Policy Obligations for Material Misrepresentations” both of which can be found in the third edition of the New York State Bar Association’s Treatise Insurance Law Practice.
Paul is a member of the New York State Bar Association and the Erie County Bar Association. He is also a member of the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance, Defense Research Institute, New York State Chapter of Special Investigation Units, Inc., and the Buffalo Claims Association. He frequently lectures and publishes materials on insurance and defense related matters through the American Bar Association, New York State Bar Association, Claims and Litigation Management Alliance, as well as for regionally and locally-based associations such as the New York Association of Independent Adjusters, Inc. and the Buffalo Claims Association. He has spoken at more than twenty conferences.
In his spare time, he enjoys collecting vintage vinyl records. A recent trip to England and Iceland has rekindled his interest in film photography. He has a modest wine cellar. Three dogs and one cat keep him busy as well. He is also a Formula One fan.
